Hendon

Hendon

Hendon is an eastern area of the City of Sunderland.

Hendon has an interesting history and is probably most famous for shipbuilding which began with the opening of a shipyard by Thomas Menville in 1346. The shipyards long since closed to be replaced by University Buildings, houses and offices.

Sunderland is a vibrant city with shops, cafés, theatres, museum and parks. It has excellent transport links. The East Coast line runs through Sunderland with links to London. There is also a Metro system linking Sunderland to Newcastle and surrounding towns.
